The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matthew 9:37-38

In baptism each person is called by God to follow Jesus in a life of holiness and service. This call may be lived out indifferent vocations: in marriage, as a single person, or as a priest, brother or sister. Please feel free to browse through the information we have available here as well as other sites designed for promoting prayers for vocations as well as discernment toward lives of consecration and dedication to priesthood and religious life. May we all be support for each other as we seek out God's will in our lives.

Family Vocation Prayer Program

As members of the Body of Christ in the Catholic Church today, we are all called to pray for each other in every way we can, and that most certainly includes discernment of God's working and calling in our lives. The priests, nuns, and other religious who are serving the universal Church, as well as those who are currently discerning a religious vocation need our prayers and support.

Recently, we've gathered families at Good Shepherd Parish to come together in a project supporting and praying for our men and women pursuing religious vocations. It is called the Family Vocation Prayer Program. This program is a valuable source of encouragement for religious as well as a source of inspiration for families as they gather for daily meditation and prayer.

Each week, one family (a couple or an individual is a family too) sets aside time each day to gather together and pray for vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and the deaconate. We also encourage families to write letters or send care packages to the individual seminarians. After the assigned week of special prayer, another family will be assigned to continue this daily prayer and support from our parish community.

The schedule for families who will take turns in the rotation can be found HERE!

This brief prayer can be said in conjunction with a family meal, or at some other time during the day when all family members are present. As a reminder to pray each day, we will supply a traveling chalice and prayer cards to be placed near the table or space in your home where the family will gather together for prayer.

All other parish families are encouraged to participate by downloading copies of the vocation prayers and contact information for the seminarians from our parish website. We hope you will all do your part to encourage and foster religious vocations, within our parish community and from within your individual families.

Prayers for Vocations

GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH – VOCATION PRAYER

In the name of the Father . . .
Lord Jesus Christ, Our High Priest,
your Church is in need of laborers for the harvest.
Touch the hearts of many
both within our parish and our own families
with a desire to serve you as priests, deacons,
sisters, and brothers.
We pray that those you call
will respond generously
and understand the path
you have set before them.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
In the name of the Father . . .

ALTERNATE PRAYERS FOR VOCATIONS

A Prayer to Make a Difference:
[Most Rev. Daniel M. Buechlein, OSB]

O Lord, help me know your will for me. Let your light shine in the depth of my
heart that I may know what you want me to do with my life. Help me believe
that you have a special plan for me. Lord, I know I pass through this life only
once; help me decide how you want me to make a difference. Like your Blessed
Mother, give me the wisdom to hear your voice and the courage to answer your
call. Above all, give me peace of mind and heart. I offer this prayer in your name.
Amen.

Vocation Prayer: [Roman Sacramentary]

Father, in your plan for our salvation you provide shepherds for
your people. Fill you church with the spirit of courage and love.
Raise up worthy ministers for your altars and ardent but gentle ser-
vants of the gospel. Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Vocation Prayer:
[Vocations Department – Archdiocese of Indianapolis]

Lord, grant to our young men and women the generosity necessary to
follow your call and the courage required to overcome all obstacles to their voca-
tions. Give to parents that faith, love, and spirit of sacrifice that will inspire
them to offer their children to God’s service and cause them to rejoice in their
call. Let your example and that of your Blessed Mother and St. Joseph encour-
age both children and parents, and may the members of Good Shepherd Parish andthe Diocese of Evansville encourage and support them with our prayers.
Amen.
