Absentee Homework Policy

K – 5 When a student goes home sick or is absent for the day, homework will be sent home at the discretion of the teacher.

Grades 6 – 8

A student who arrives after first period is responsible for turning in assignments to the teacher(s) whose class(es) he has missed.

A student in grades 6-8 who leaves for any portion of the school day will be responsible for requesting a homework sheet from the teacher whose class he is leaving. The student must turn in assignments which are due that day to the teachers or office staff before leaving. Failure to do so may result in loss of credit or a notice.

A homework sheet will be prepared for every student who is absent. The student is to check with the homeroom teacher to receive the homework sheet the day following his or her absence. Students will be given a day to complete make-up work for each day absent. The student is encouraged to call a classmate to know assignments before returning to school. If the student is absent for more than one day, please contact the homeroom teacher.

If a student is absent for one day, a homework sheet will not be issued unless the parent calls before 7:15 a.m. and leaves a voice mail message for the homeroom teacher. The homework sheet and any assigned papers will be left at the office. The parent is responsible for collecting books from the student’s locker. For short absences of one day or a partial day, the students should make arrangements with a classmate to collect homework. The student should not rely totally on a homework sheet for missed work. It is ultimately the student’s responsibility to check will all teachers upon returning to school to turn in assignments and collect any missed work.

The student will be given a reasonable amount of time but not to exceed five days to have the missed work completed. The time will be at the discretion of the teacher. The time allotted for taking a test will be given at the discretion of the teacher. Tests and projects are announced well in advance so students may be required to take the test or turn in projects on the day of his return to school.
