ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY

In the Gospel today, we hear Jesus say:  “Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father”.

This month, through your gifts, the St. Vincent de Paul was able to “acknowledge the goodness of the Father” by assisting 27 families, providing $1,646.31 for food, rent, furniture, Vectren bills and car repairs.

SUMMER SOCIAL – June 26-27-28

HELP WANTED

Only 4 short days until the beginning of our annual summer social.  The proceeds of the social benefit everyone in the parish.  So please, if you have not signed up to help, do so this week by calling Amy Cater at 867-2987.  Help is needed in the following areas:

There are several kids’ booths that still need help.  If you’re new in the parish, the social is a wonderful way to meet people and become an active member of the parish family.

Kitchen – Help is needed to debone chicken on Monday, June 23 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Dealers for the Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament are needed for Sunday, June 29, beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Also needed are dealers for the nightly pick up tables during the social – 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.  Please call Mark Schmitz at 618-5986 if you can deal cards.

Other Summer Social needs

2-Liter Soft Drinks are desperately needed.  Only 40 have been donated – normally 100 are given away each night of the social.

Theme Baskets are also desperately needed. Suggestions are available on the bulletin board between the two sets of doors leading into the church.  If you don’t have the time to put together a basket, why not donate the money as we have a group of ladies that are great at putting baskets together.  Please call Ann Gerteisen at 479-9493 concerning theme baskets.

New/Used Children’s Books & Movies are needed and can be used to put theme baskets together.  Please drop off in Room 110 no later than Wednesday.

Beanie Babies – Glassware – Stuffed Animals are all needed for the social.

Desserts/Baked Goods Booth – Desserts will be needed each night for our dinners.  Baked Goods (cookies, brownies, candy, etc.) will be needed for the Baked Goods Booth.  Please do not cut baked goods.

The Country Market - needs handcrafted items, jams, jellies, indoor and outdoor plants. Please call Kristi Wahl at 473-3656 with questions.

Discounted Ride TicketsTickets are available after Masses this weekend or at the parish office thru noon on Thursday.  Pre-Sale tickets will be $3.00 per sheet of three rides.  During the social, tickets will sell for $1.75 each, ten (10) rides for $15.00 or $17.00 per night for a bracelet.

****All donations for the social are now to be dropped off at the school.  The Theme Baskets go to Room 110 with the remaining donations going to Room 100.  Thanks for your cooperation. ****

Saturday Evening Mass, June 28, will be held at 4:00 p.m. instead of the regular 5:30 p.m.

Bishop Gettelfinger has requested that immigration information be published in the next several bulletins.

Perceived Myth:   Most immigrants cross the border illegally.
Known Fact:  Around 75% of today’s immigrants have legal permanent (immigrant) visas; of the 25% that are undocumented, 40% overstayed temporary (non-immigrant) visas.

CONGRATULATIONS TO- - - - - -

Joe & Lindsay (Deyss) Wiener

Who were married last weekend at St. Wendel.

May God bless them in the years ahead!!!!!

You will start seeing all sorts of building equipment on the parish grounds.  June 30 is the day that Arc Construction begins work on the parish Social Hall.  Thanks to the Restoration & Rebuilding Committee and the Forward in Faith Committee for all the work they have done to make this a reality.  Special THANKS to all who have pledged thus far for this project.

VBS NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

1.        An adult volunteer to supervise the nursery for the volunteers’ children.

2.        An adult to assist in pre-kindergarten on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

3.        Ten additional high school students for group leaders.

Our youth look forward to this program which CANNOT exist without your help.  Please call Sue Kroupa at 626-0206 to volunteer.

RCIA – If you have been coming to Mass for a while, but are not Catholic, we invite you to look more deeply into the Catholic faith.  Good Shepherd Parish will soon begin a series of sessions to explain the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith.  We invite you to learn what Catholics believe, how we worship, and how we live out our faith.  These sessions are also an opportunity for you to ask questions you may have about the Church.  These sessions are part of a process we call RCIA or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  If you or someone you know might have an interest in learning more, please call Father Attila or Deacon Ed at 477-5405.

WANTED – FOREMAN FOR PLAYGROUD COMMITTEE

The Playground Committee is seeking a foreman (or foremen) to facilitate a team for the new playground.  We are also in need of people with construction experience to serve on this team.  Please contact Robin Deem at 402-3702 or Laurie Witting at 402-9186 if you would like to help with the construction of our new playground.

HEALTH MINISTRY

Jeff Palmer, Resident Chaplain at Deaconess Hospital, recently spoke about the grief process at the Liturgy of Remembrance.  He invites any parishioner in need of grief counseling to call him at 450-2260.

‘In my Father’s house, there are many rooms’ (John 14:2).  We know that our heavenly house will be safe and secure, but what about our home on earth?  Go to mysafehome.org to take a virtual home tour and learn what you can do to make your house safer for everyone, especially children and seniors.

The Elizabeth Ministry would like to present baby blankets at Baptism.  They may be any size, color or style such as quilted, knitted, or crocheted, etc.  Call Sherry Hurt at 401-7636 with questions.
