Next weekend, a missionary from The Salesian Missions will be here to celebrate Mass.  The Salesian objective is to teach young people various trades that will help them find decent jobs and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.   The Salesians insist that the needy help themselves in whatever way they can.  Envelopes are in the pews this weekend.  Please pick one up and put in the collection basket next weekend.  Thank You!

HELP WANTED

WE’RE STILL LOOKING FOR CHAIRPERSONS FOR THE SOCIAL AND ALSO A CHAIRMAN FOR THE CORN DOG BOOTH.  In the past, several couples have chaired the social as a group.  Why not talk to your friends to see if they would consider doing this with you?  Detailed notes have been kept and will be passed along to the new chairpersons.  Please call Amy at 867-2987.

Kitchen – Help is needed to debone chicken on June 16 and 23 beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Bishop Gettelfinger has requested that immigration information be published in the next several bulletins.

Perceived Myth:   Better border enforcement will solve the immigration problem.

Known Fact:  From 1986 to 1998, the Border Patrol’s budget increased six-fold and the number of agents stationed on our southwest border doubled to 8,500.  From 1993 to 2004, spending for border enforcement nearly quardrupled.  Yet, the number of unauthorized arrivals increased.  Moreover, U.S. border enforcement strategies have channeled migrants to more remote crossing points, resulting in increased fatalities, a growth in smugglers and traffickers, and reduced chances of apprehension.  Insufficient legal avenues for immigrants to enter the U.S. compared with the number of jobs in need of workers, have significantly contributed to the current conundrum.

VBS STAFF & HIGH SCHOOL LEADERS MEETING

There will be a meeting of all adult and high school leaders on Thursday, June 12.  Staff will meet from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.  Following the staff meeting, from 6:30 – 7:15 p.m., there will be a meeting for any high school student (including those going into high school in the fall) interested in being a group leader and helpers. This meeting is mandatory.  The meetings will be held in the school cafeteria.  Contact Sue Kroupa at 626-0206 with questions.

VBS is in need of the following:

*     Two (2) adults to supervise crafts.  Crafts are already prepared         and high school students will assist, but we need adult

RCIA – If you have been coming to Mass for a while, but are not Catholic, we invite you to look more deeply into the Catholic faith.  Good Shepherd Parish will soon begin a series of sessions to explain the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith.  We invite you to learn what Catholics believe, how we worship, and how we live out our faith.  These sessions are also an opportunity for you to ask questions you may have about the Church.  These sessions are part of a process we call RCIA or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  If you or someone you know might have an interest in learning more, please call Father Attila or Deacon Ed at 477-5405.
